स्याही की नज्मे

स्याही की नज्मो को ताज की नक्काशी कहते हो
या तो ख्याली नज़र रखते हो या दिल में फिजूल प्यार ।

तनहाई एक गुफ्तगू हैं नजर-ए-हमदर्दी मत जताओ
विरानों के तबस्सुम हैं- हमारी फितरत-ए-फिरदौस नही ।

हमजमीन हैं तकदीर से- सर आँखों पर ना बिठाओ
जब छुआ था जुनूनी आसमान कहीं हवा न थी न परछाईं ।

क्या होता भी हैं वो मंजर अंजाम-ए-ख्वाब का ?
सांसें तो पैदा ही होती हैं मिठे तडपने के लिए ।

और कुछ नहीं तो आजमा ही लु इस अर्जी शोहरत को
बस इतना बताओ की आपकी बरदाश्त-ए-रजा क्या हैं ।

Further is a dialogue between two dear friends, upon one's praising of another, the later replies in lines of a friendly disapproval.

स्याही की नज्मो को ताज की नक्काशी कहते हो
या तो ख्याली नज़र रखते हो, या दिल में फिजूल प्यार ।

( Written are the verses merely in ink my dear, but you talk of them as gilded adornments !
Either highly imaginative that you are or carry an
excessive admiration for me )

तनहाई एक गुफ्तगू हैं, नजर-ए-हमदर्दी मत जताओ
विरानों के तबस्सुम हैं, हमारी फितरत-ए-फिरदौस नही ।

( My art is born of a painful yearning, which becomes my conversation with myself, lets not sympathize that. It for that matter dwells in despair and to be in blossoms, to find inspiration in it, isn't it's nature )

हमजमीन हैं तकदीर से, सर आँखों पर ना बिठाओ
जब छुआ था जुनूनी आसमान कहीं हवा न थी न परछाईं ।

( I'm grounded by my fate only, please don't put me above yourself. May be there were times, when I may have touched skies in passionate fervor, but then neither there was any news or mark to be )

क्या होता भी हैं वो मंजर अंजाम-ए-ख्वाब का ?
सांसें तो पैदा ही होती हैं तडपने के लिए ।

( Is there any resolution to life? How can anything exist post fruition of dreams ? As long as you breath you shall suffer for them )

( Alright I will take a chance and accept your glorified image of mine, if only you let me know limits of your will to tolerate it )
